REMEMBER TO BRING BASIC SEWING SUPPLIES IF YOU SIGN-UP FOR WORKSHOPS OR HANDS-ON CLASSES You will need to bring the following supplies if you are taking any hands-on classes: sharp sewing shears, rotary cutter, cutting mat, straight pins, marking tool, ruler, tape measure, #2 pencils and notepad. As a Trade Show Salesperson you will be responsible for the financial success of our public events. You will be responsible for selling the events by contacting former vendors and cold calling potential new vendors, acquire sponsorship and help build attendance. Your responsibility will be to foster and maintain relationships with key industry accounts to increase vendor sales and attendance by communicating the value of the event.

Connie CrawfordConnie Crawford is a licensed designer for Butterick Patterns and is owner of Fashion Patterns by Coni. She is a nationally recognized lecturer, fashion specialist, educator, and author of sewing and pattern books, including A Guide to Fashion Sewing, The Art of Fashion Draping, and Patternmaking Made Easy. Drawing on her 35 years of experience in apparel manufacturing and 23 years teaching fashion design classes in patternmaking, sewing and draping at The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, Connie created her own pattern line with true-to-body fit from sizes X-Small to 6X.

Have Sleeve Will Travel
515-Friday, August 20, 2010 – 10:15 am - 11:15 am
Class fee: $10
Learn how to fit sleeves for a variety of arm shapes and sizes. At the same time, learn how the armhole controls the fit, cap shape, sleeve size and hang of the sleeve. This class will teach you how to adjust a sleeve for more movement along with the various ease amounts, cap shape and hang of the sleeve.

Sew Like A Pro
520-Friday, August 20, 2010 – 2 pm – 4 pm
Class fee: $20 Kit fee: $5
Learn fashion industry sewing techniques and shortcuts that will make your sewing more professional, efficient, enjoyable and satisfying. Connie will demonstrate several sewing techniques and interfacings that are used in the fashion industry today. Topics include efficient cutting techniques, selecting interfacings for fashion sewing that do not need pre-shrinking, notching concepts, pin basting, using a gathering foot, crimping vs. ease stitching, bias treatments, spaghetti variations, vest linings, placket techniques, and zipper techniques. This lecture will relieve your fears of the more complicated fashion details.
Kit fee: $5. The kit fee will be paid directly to the instructor during the workshop.

Drafting Pants With Couture Fit
620-Saturday, August 21, 2010 – 10:15 am – 11:15 am
Class fee: $10
Learn an amazingly simple draft (from “scratch”) that results in correctly fitting pants. The keys to couture fit are found in understanding how various waist slopes, crotch depths, and overall crotch formulas control the overall pant fit. This pattern draft even accommodates difficult-to-fit bodies, such as mature figures and plus size figures. Connie will also demonstrate how to use the pants and skirt slopers to create various styles including fashion jeans, overalls, elastic waistlines, and a large variety of skirt designs.

Designing & Fitting Bustiers
715-Sunday, August 22, 2010 – 10:15 am – 12:15 pm
Class fee: $20
Learn how to design, drape and fit a bustier form-fitting strapless bodice that fits snugly around the rib cage. Connie will present various bNustier designs by draping them and illustrating what is necessary to have to hold its shape and create the design features. She will also demonstrate the bustier lining, foundation garment variations that are sewn between the lining and the outside fabric design. Using the pre-cut fabric foundation pieces that are used in the production process in the fashion industry, Connie will demonstrate sewing the boining in place to create the foundation garment that is sewn between the lining and the fashion fabric of the outside design.
