Appli-felting
510-Friday, August 20, 2010 – 10:15 am – 1:15 pm
Class fee: $30 Kit fee: $35
Join Barbara in this wonderful technique of appli-felting. Learn to combine appliqué and needle felting and add it to garments. You will create double decker designs by creating three-dimensional appliqués to add to or build on to the garment itself. You’ll learn to embellish with hand embroidery, adding buttons, yarn, hotfit rhinestones too. It’s a great way to get back to the basics in our lives with handwork, practicing with hand embroidery or even learning hand embroidery if you haven’t done it before. The class will also go into detail on making things permanent on your clothing as well.

Supply list: bring scissors, tracing pen (if you have a special appliqué pattern that you would like to dimensionalize and add on to the double decker pattern.)

Kit fee: $35, which includes sweatshirt, needles, foam bases, wool rovings, wool felts, yarns, threads, ribbons, buttons, perle cotton and needle, patterns and more. You can select the shirt from Barbara’s booth.

Now You See It, Now You Don’t: The Sweatshirts, Of Course!
610-Saturday, August 21, 2010 – 10:15 am – 11:15 am
Class fee: $10
Here is 60 minutes of jam packed fun and creativity. Everything you can do with a sweatshirt whether you see the sweatshirt or not. It’s there somewhere. This is the class that Barbara is known for – she has been teaching it all over the country. Just when you think you can’t do anything else with a sweatshirt, Barbara will inspire you with a whole new wardrobe using them. This class goes over every detail in making jackets that are just appliquéd and needlefelted, to stadium jackets and long duster coats that you don’t see the sweatshirts, using wools, wool felts, cotton, and old jeans. For those of you who are like Barbara (“buttonhole phobics”) — don’t worry…there will be innovative creative closures to inspire you. Barbara will also show you how to make those popular swing jackets with one pleat swings to the four-pleated swing. Last, but certainly not least, this is a wonderful cause for those who don’t sew much, so if you’re a novice or a seasoned sewer, there is something here for all of you.

Nuno-felting
615-Saturday, August 21, 2010 – 12:45 pm – 3:45 pm
Class fee: $30 Kit fee: $65
Nuno Felting is a Japanese felting technique that combines shear fiber and wool to make lightweight garments and other items by shrinking them together with moisture and agitation and creating many possibilities for transparency and exciting texture..The word Nuno is Japanese for fabric.

We are combining silks and wool with no sewing , just loads of sudsy fun, mixin’ it up with colors of wool roving, yarns, silk tussah, silk chiffon, hand dyed curly wools, rhinestones, glass beads, embroidery and whatever else we can throw in! To top it all off, the workshop is set to music and we will be working with our feet! So get ready to Rock n’ Roll and join Barbara for a special play date that includes, bubbles, noodles, chiffon, suds, rolling games, throwing , and playing with squishy things. The finished scarves are works of art just on their own ,but embellishing them with beads, embroidery, blingz n’ thingz, creates more dimension and quite a profit making item in high end stores. Scarves are only one thing that can be made with this method, this class will enable you to learn the technique and create clothing that are lightweight and non bulky to sew. Students will use the roving’s to create their own designs and patterns by throwing the roving randomly onto the silk, giving you the opportunity to have fun with what you are working on. The process is fast enough that we will finish in the classroom. (There will be models of scarves and clothing in the room as well).

Bring to Class: regular sewing notions, needles, scissors, thread, old towel, (and if you have something special you would like to add for embellishments bring them with you. WEAR OLDER CLOTHING!

Kit fee $65 which includes: silk fabrics, wool roving’s, bubble wrap, spray bottles, nylon voile, yarns, curly mohair, beads, buttons, embroidery threads, rhinestones, Angelina fibers, plastic wraps, noodles, soap.

The kit fee will be paid directly to the instructor during the workshop.
